VDL2 also forecasts that Microsoft's problems with security breaches will reach a critical level in 2002, and it is likely some of its products will be banished from security-sensitive firms. A proper Internet business model is also emerging, VDL2 says. The free Internet model is not disappearing, contrary to what several analysts have forecast. Rather, the emerging Internet model relies on extremely low operating costs, indirect revenue (with traditional revenues generated by the Internet), revenue from value-added services, advertising revenue and e-commerce revenue.
VDL2 also predicts the music industry will continue to bang its head against the wall in trying to get consumers to pay for music online, because the paid model goes against the Internet dynamic and the continuing will of consumers to download music for free.
