Norms and Standards

Compliance with applicable norms and standards is a priority at VDL2. Although this may sometimes enhance the degree of complexity and require an extra measure of creativity on our behalf, experience has taught us that this approach guarantees performance, stability and accessibility, while reducing maintenance costs in the medium term.

This site was developed to demonstrate that compliance with applicable norms and standards is possible without reducing the number of functionalities available to Internet users.

Compliance with the W3C's (World Wide Web Consortium) XHTML standard allows us to completely separate content from page layout attributes. This makes it possible to guarantee site readability by all browsing software such as Netscape 4, 6 and 7, Microsoft Explorer 4, 5 and 6, Safari, Mozilla, etc.). Moreover, this approach makes it easy to revisit site style without modifying the content.

Compliance with W3C's WAI Guide makes it possible to guarantee readability and accessibility by adapted individuals, notably persons with visual impairments. For an idea of how your site appears to an adapted individual, we invite you to install IBM's Home Page Reader and to test it on your site. You are in for a surprise or two :-)

Although compliance with the aforementioned norms has put our team to the test on more than one occasion, we are of the opinion that our efforts were as justified as those required to achieve graphic excellence.

Whether or not we ever have the honour of working with you, we trust that this page will inspire you to ensure that your site complies with all applicable norms and standards out of respect for various target markets and with a view to reducing operating and development costs that will only encumber future profitability.
